Appliances

We don't just make furniture. What kitchen would be complete without the cooker? And the fridge, and the dishwasher, and... There are many, many makes of appliances on the market; some you have probably never heard of, and some you wouldn't want to hear of.

I have carefully selected the best of what is available to ensure that they will not only be a joy to use but when the need for service arises, you can be confident that service there will be.

Why buy your appliances from Hammerton's?

We'll find out what you really want and using our extensive product knowledge suggest appliances that will work for you. We'll find out what's on special offer this month. In short we'll do the donkey work for you.

If we supply the furniture and you the appliances, who is responsible when say the oven burns the furniture or the dishwasher floods or when your new hob turns out to be damaged when its unpacked? Integrated appliances are exactly that: Integrated into the furniture. When we supply you with both furniture and appliances we take full responsibility for their correct function together. We also check them over in our warehouse before we deliver them with your kitchen. We'll do our best to make sure that everything is present and correct before we start fitting your new kitchen.

In short we'll take away the hassle.

Case study:

A lady phoned having bought a cooker at a well-known retailer. The deal was that
they would install the cooker to prepared supplies. She engaged an electrician to run
a new supply and us to alter the gas supply and remove the old built in cooker and
hob. Simple…

We asked her for installation instructions in order that we could put the gas supply in
the correct place but these were not available so the shop gave her verbal instructions.
We did our bit as per the verbal instructions and when the cooker turned up the next
day, the fitter said that the electric supply failed a test and the gas supply was in the
wrong place so off he went leaving the cooker unconnected and the customer
disgruntled. She then turned to us to sort it out. The electrician re-tested his work
and found it to be fine so he connected the cable. However when we asked for the
certificate he is required by law to provide, it turned out that he was not registered and
so could not provide one! Eventually this was sorted and we were able to connect the
gas and commission the cooker some seven days after we started. Much stress was
had by all and the customer had to foot the bill.

And the moral of the story? Look beyond the price to see the true cost!

Why Siemens?

Siemens is one of the worlds largest companies specialising in things electrical. From mobile phones to nuclear power stations, toasters to high tech medical equipment.

The Siemens range of kitchen appliances goes well beyond the everyday, which is why we recommend them. I've quoted the rest of this page from their web site www.siemensappliances.co.uk

When you buy a Siemens, whether it is a single appliance as a replacement, or a whole range of appliances for a new kitchen, you're getting more than just a new appliance; you're getting 160 years of innovation and design.

The Siemens name stands out from the crowd. It stands for technological innovation; it stands for aspiration and it stands for style. In fact, the Siemens brand stands for the very best in appliance design for tomorrow's homes.

At the forefront of today's technology, the 'touch control' oven leads the industry in style and innovation. The contemporary appearance and designer elegance of the rest of their products, highlighted by the eye-catching combination of brushed aluminium and black glass guarantees that Siemens appliances will make a welcome addition to any kitchen for a long time to come.

Hands up who likes cleaning the oven!

I thought so. Siemens have the answer. PyroKleen. Switch on the special very high temperature cleaning program and when it's cooled down wipe out the ash with a damp cloth. It's as simple as that.

The latest hob technology, designed to look stylish and work hard

In most kitchens the hob is the hardest working appliance of all. It has to be many things; stylish, easy to use and clean (with accessible controls) and above all, immediately responsive.
I recommend the induction hob.

  • It's faster and more controllable than gas
  • The hob top stays cooler so when the custard boils over the mess is
    less appalling. It's safer too
  • Uses less energy than any other hob type
  • The ceramic top is easier to clean
  • No need for gas bottles if you live in darkest Sussex

Don't take my word for it. Pop in for a demo.

Whether your preference is for ceramic, gas or induction; all are designed to be compatible with Siemens ovens and there's usually at least one to match.

Siemens refrigeration; it's smart, sophisticated, and above all stylish

Siemens is renowned for its groundbreaking range of environmentally friendly refrigeration appliances, and the new collection is no exception. Look out for some brand new features, such as climateKontrol, the ultimate temperature management system and Digital sensor technology that accurately controls and monitors the interior temperature and operation of your fridge/freezer. Siemens twinKompressor technology offers totally independent control, which allows you to keep the fridge running when defrosting the freezer. There's even bacteriaKontrol by AgION -the world 's most advanced natural anti-microbial technology now standard on nearly all Siemens refrigeration.

Siemens cooling appliances are available in a variety of formats, from built-in to free-standing units and the sleek designer looks of the aluminium range. Siemens can always offer you the product to suit your lifestyle.

Go Large

When size matters the Americans lead the way. This model has a dispenser for ice cubes, crushed ice and chilled water. The fridge part is pretty much double the capacity of the largest built in fridge.

State of the art dishwashers

The range employs the very latest technology to make sure our built in dishwshers are the best. The energy management system guarantees the most efficient use of energy and water so you get clean dishes every time. Unfortunately you still have to load it.

Siemens have taken great care to provide effective sound insulation and once built in they really are very quiet. There are of course several models with ever increasing numbers of programmes but I've not met anyone who ever uses more than two so I mostly go for the simplest.

Built in, Integrated or Free-standing?

A built in appliance is fitted into the furniture but has no door. An oven for example.

Integrated appliances have the means of fitting a matching cabinet door and become visually part of the furniture.

Free standing appliances cannot be fitted with doors and remain on show. I normally suggest integrated appliances as it seems a shame to spoil the clean lines of the kitchen with the white front of the dishwasher. I'm often asked to build in an existing free standing appliance but it rarely works well and I don't recommend it.
